The Department of Immigration and Citizenship has announced that the much anticipated Post Work Study Vias, will be introduced next week! The scheme will allow graduates of Universities, the opportunity to stay in Australia and work for up to 4 years.
Unlike the current scheme, students will not be required to undertake a skills assessment and students that have studied a bachelor degree will get 2 year work visa, Masters with Honours 3 years and PHD 4 years.
EMSA welcomes the new changes and Director Shannon Semenikow has said that
“this is a great opportunity for international students and will allow graduates to gain Australian experience, help recoup some of the cost of study and provide avenues to residency through employer sponsorship. It also means that international students will choose to study a more broad range of courses and not just those on the curent Skilled Occupation List meaning Australia will benefit from a wider variety of skilled migrants entering the workforce. It’s a great move by the government”.
EMSA will be running free seminars Australia wide over the next month to help explain these changes as well as discuss General Skilled Migration
