Accounting: Challenges with reduced places and options to explore

Accountant

Accounting has long been a popular choice for students wanting to study in Australia and in the past, many have gone on to apply for residency. What you may not know, is that places under the skilled migration program for Accountants has been in decline over the last 3 years.

In the 2013/14 year, Accountants had 9700 places allocated in the General Skilled Migration program. This dropped to 5400 in 2014/15 and this year, 2015/16 it has again been reduced to 2700. On top of this, places for Accounting have been filled over both of these years.

With so many students currently enrolled in Accounting, this means new challenges for students wanting to apply for residency upon graduation. That said, skilled migration is only one avenue that international people can use to apply to stay longer in Australia. Post study work visas or graduate work visas can also provide students with the opportunity to score more points through avenues like the professional year, undertaking a test or course as a translator or interpreter or gaining paid experience.

As well as this, there are a range of other avenues EMSA helps our clients to explore such as state sponsorship (including regional), employer sponsorship (457), regional employer sponsorship, family sponsorship and more. Given that immigration rules are constantly changing and the new system is competitive, it’s important to ensure that you are aware of all the possibilities to ensure you have the best chance of succeeding in your achieving your goals in Australia, whatever they may be.

At EMSA, we specialise in helping our clients discover all the possibilities that are open to them (in many cases, ones they may not have been aware of).

Then, at the manager position comes the turn and change of focus. It is this point at which the new skills like those listed above become critical.
