What’s the latest News on the Temporary Sponsored Parent visa?

News on the Temporary Sponsored Parent visa: As per our previous blog on this topic it was expected that the NEW Temporary Parent visa could be introduced as early as November 2017 if the Bill was passed in Parliament – Migration Amendment (Family Violence and Other Measures) Bill 2016.

However, the Bill enabling the new visa to come into effect has not yet been approved by the Senate.

The Bill will now need to be listed for further consideration in the Senate but there is currently no indication of when this may be.

What happens now?

Shayne Neumann, Shadow Minister for Immigration and Border Protection has said: “Labour supports children having the opportunity to temporarily reunite with their parents and we took a policy to the Federal election which we believe was better and fairer.”

“I will continue to meet with migrant families and communities to discuss how this policy will affect their families” he has said.

Adelaide man Arvind Duggal who fronted the ‘Long-Stay Visa for parents campaign’ is reported as saying that he is disappointed that this campaign has ended up in a visa which a large number of migrants will find excessively high due to the proposed fees [ 3-year visa will carry a fee of $5,000 and a 5-year visa $10,000.]

He says he will continue to meet politicians from different parties to find support to make this visa affordable.

It seems there is much public support for this visa to be introduced so watch this space for more up to date news.
